Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is native to the tropics of central Africa and southeast Asia even though it is perhaps most famously used in italian cuisine. This aromatic herb adds bright flavor to savory dishes and pairs well with fruit in sweet dishes.
Basil likes bright direct light and moist soil. Pinch back the buds to keep the herb from bolting.
